The $127bn North Carolina State Treasurer
Department’s investment management division has appointed Ty Powers as its
investment director, a newly opened position.
The appointment was announced on March 19
by the Brad Briner, treasurer of the plan.
Powers will oversee the multi-strategy
asset class which includes customized partnerships, direct investments and
co-investments.

“Ty will serve a critical role as we
continue to re-align our long-term investment objectives, including eliminating
our pension deficits,” said Briner, who joined in January.
Prior to joining the system, Powers worked
as the director of asset allocation at Investors Trust Co., an investment
advisory firm.
Before that, he worked as a portfolio manager
in the Treasurer Department’s investment management division with a focus on
real assets, multi-strategy and credit.
Powers earned his bachelor’s degree in
economics from Washington & Lee University and an MBA with a major in
investment management from the University of North Carolina.
