Sarah Smart
will step down as chair of The Pensions Regulator (TPR) in July this year.
She joined
the UK’s workplace pensions regulator’s board in 2016 as a senior independent
director alongside being the chair of the board.
The search
for Smart’s successor will be led by the Department for Work and Pensions
(DWP) and expects to end within the next six months.

During her
tenure, the firm made multiple radical outcome-focused interventions in the
market including massively expanding pension participants by introducing
automatic enrolment.
Further, TPR
expanded its delivery approach to incorporate systematic risk mitigation
alongside introducing clearer funding expectations through the establishment of
a DB funding code and collecting DC schemes to promote innovation in the
market.
She has
held multiple roles including board member of Big Society Capital, senior
advisor at Avida International and as an independent member of the investing
and funding committee at Unilever UK Pension Scheme among others.
