Carol Tusch has been
named vice president of Trusts and Investments, (and chief investment officer) at International Paper, succeeding
Bob Hunkeler who will be retiring at the end of the quarter, Markets Group has learned on Friday. She will report to
Tim Nicholls, senior vice president and chief financial officer. Carol joined
the company’s investment team in Stamford, Conn., in 1999 and has taken on
increasing levels of responsibility throughout her career. Carol will remain
located in Stamford.
At International Paper for 23 years, Tusch has helped to manage the day to day operations of the defined contribution and defined benefit plans, valued at more than $16 billion. Her most recent role was deputy CIO, which she held for three years. Prior to International Paper, Tusch spent 16 years at Verizon Investment Management, where she was senior portfolio manager
until 1999. She holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut, a BS in Finance from Fairfield University, and attended Yale School of Management for an executive program on Women on Boards.Â
Robert “Bob” Hunkeler, retiring in March from 26 years at International Paper, is well known for his engaging involvement in the Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets (CIEBA), as former chair and board member. Hunkeler is considered a thoughtful investor, who was early to derivatives and real estate investments within his funds. Before International Paper, he worked at Novartis as associate director of Funds Management & Financing, and began his earlier career as a chemist for CIBA-Geigy AG in Basel, Switzerland, working on intermolecular ketene cyclo-additions for chemical research and syntheses. He holds an MBA in Finance and a Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Maryland.Â
