Los Angeles Fire
and Police Pensions (LAFPP) Chief Investment Officer Ray Joseph has resigned, said Ray
Ciranna, general manager of the $30 billion fire and police pension.
Joseph had “personal
reasons” for leaving LAFPP, Ciranna said, declining additional comment. He
noted Joseph retired Friday, May 6.
Joseph joined the defined
benefit plan in June 2021 after departing investment consultant Wilshire
Associates, where he had worked as vice president beginning in 2017. Joseph
replaced Tom Lopez, who became LAFPP CIO in 1992. Lopez retired in December
2020.
Ciranna had said
Joseph brought a “wealth of knowledge” to LAFPP. Ciranna will be interim CIO
until LAFPP can choose a successor to Joseph.
Joseph began his
career in investment management with Idearc Media Corporation before
becoming CIO of the State of New Jersey Division of Investment in 2008.
He also worked as CIO
for the United States Department of the Interior.
