KKR Brings Sudol Aboard as General Counsel

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett veteran has worked with investment firm on transactions for several years.

By David G. Barry

Kathryn King Sudol is leaving her role as global
co-head of mergers and acquisitions at law firm Simpson Thacher &
Bartlett LLP
to become general counsel of investment firm KKR.

Sudol, who has been with Simpson Thacher for 24 years, will succeed David
Sorkin
, who has served as KKR’s general counsel since 2007. When Sudol
arrives in September, Sorkin will become KKR’s chief legal officer. At the end
of the first quarter of 2023, Sudol will assume the role of chief legal officer
and Sorkin will become an advisory partner.

In a prepared statement, KKR’s co-CEOs, Joe Bae
and Scott Nuttall, called Sudol a “preeminent lawyer and dynamic leader,” who has
worked very closely with KKR and members of its senior team for several years and
is “perfect fit for KKR’s culture.”
