Susan Oh leaves after 28 years for firm that specializes in artificial intelligence.

By Christine Giordano

Susan Oh,
known for her entrepreneurial mind at the $70 billion PA Public School
Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS), has been enticed by a position at an
artificial intelligence money management firm. She left the fund to become Head
of Strategy and Solutions at the six-person Rosetta Analytics team, an
investment firm that has been using proprietary
advanced machine learning
(deep learning and deep reinforcement learning) to build and manage investment
strategies for institutional clients since 2017.“Unlike many managers that use
AI to augment existing investment processes, our AI is our investment process,”
she said.

Prior to joining the firm, Oh spent more than 28 years at PSERS,
where she spearheaded innovation in strategic asset allocation, portfolio
construction, and risk management and
served as the founding
chair of the Asset Allocation Committee.

Oh has been described as a serial
entrepreneur at PSERS, building its swap overlay program in 2006, advocating
for a greater risk-balanced asset allocation after the Global Financial Crisis,
leading the Risk Parity initiative in 2012 and the foreign currency hedging
initiative in 2013.  She was also the
chief architect of the strategic derivatives portfolio initiative in 2019 a
nd oversaw internal non-US equity.

Her innovations have become large contributors to
diversification and alpha generation at the plan and led to a greater
proportion of assets managed internally.
She was recognized for her contributions as a national Next Generation luminary at many industry events where Oh was invited to speak.

She started her career with KPMG and is a CFA
charterholder and a CPA.   She holds a Bachelor of Science, summa cum
laude, in Accounting from
Indiana
University of Pennsylvania where she was inducted into the Hall of Distinction in
2019.  She also serves as inaugural member of National Advisory Council of
Association of Asian American Investment Managers.

Oh said she
took the role because of the “transformative power that Rosetta’s advanced
artificial intelligence can play in alpha generation and risk management.”

The firm was co-founded by former president
of Wilshire Consulting, Julia Bonafede and Angelo Calvello, former co-founder
of the Blue Diamond Asset Management AG.
