For the
second time in the past four years, Howard Hodel has been tapped as acting
chief investment officer of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of
Hawaii (ERS).
The
$22.5 billion system is currently looking for a replacement for Elizabeth
Burton, who
left at the end of June, citing family and personnel-related issues. .
Burton joined the system four years ago, replacing Vijoy Chattergy.
Hodel, who holds the title of investment manager, risk management, also served
as acting CIO between Chattergy and Burton. He joined ERS in 2014 after being
CEO of Absolute Plus Advisors, LLC.
Executive Director Thomas “Thom” Williams told Markets Group in May that
the system would “consider all options” in terms of replacing Burton.
Other state public pension
funds that are still looking to bring aboard new CIOs include the Idaho
Public Employee Retirement System, the Minnesota State Board of Investment, the
New Hampshire Retirement System, the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System,
and the State of Rhode Island.
